Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball Falls, 11-4, to Slippery Rock

Goldey-Beacom built an early four-run lead, but unfortunately could not hold on to it in an 11-4 loss against Slippery Rock in Cary, NC.

The Lightning wasted no time in the top of the first inning, plating three runs.  Braden Kolmansberger (Lewisberry, PA) got things going with an RBI single, fellow senior Mitch Jolikko (Middletown, DE) got a run-scoring groundout and senior Dante DiSabatino (Middletown, DE) followed with an RBI single for a 3-0 margin.

The lead grew to 4-0 in the fifth.  Senior Christian Petrillo (New Brunswick, NJ) got a leadoff double, stole third and scored on Kolmansberger's RBI single.

But The Rock got six runs in the last of the frame in opening a 6-4 lead.  Jimmy Sadler had the key at-bat in the inning with a two-run single as the team saw its first five batters of the inning reach base.

Slippery Rock plated two more in the sixth on RBI singles from Tyler Cerame and Gage Gillott for an 8-4 margin.  That lead grew to 10-4 in the seventh on sacrifice flies from Sadler and Joe Purcell.

Petrillo ended 3-for-3 with Kolmansberger and sophomore Zach Smethers (Nazareth, PA) notching two hits apiece for the Lightning (3-2).

Cerame and Brandon Butler got three hits apiece for Slippery Rock (3-1).

Goldey-Beacom on Monday closes its second Cary trip with a 10:00 am doubleheader against Frostburg State.
