Baseball Gains Friday Split in Cary



Goldey-Beacom began things Friday with a 9-6 victory over Franklin Pierce before closing with a 5-3 loss, ending its first trip this season to Cary, NC with two wins over three games.
 
Goldey-Beacom in the opener grabbed a 3-1 lead in the top of the third inning when senior Dante DiSabatino (Middletown, DE) lined a two-run triple, scoring senior Mitch Jolikko (Middletown, DE) and sophomore Bobby Stewart (Newark, DE).  Two more crossed home in the fourth when senior Christian Petrillo (New Brunswick, NJ) had a leadoff single and junior Anthony Charles (Mullica Hill, NJ) cracked his seventh career homer for a 5-1 margin.
 
Senior Matt Benner (Souderton, PA) scored on a wild pitch in the fifth for a 6-2 game, Charles and senior Braden Kolmansberger (Lewisberry, PA) each had an RBI grounder in the seventh to make it 8-2 and Kolmansberger notched an RBI single in the eighth for a seven-run margin.
 
Petrillo went 3-for-3, Charles recorded three RBI and senior Ryan Pozo (Fords, NJ) struck out five over 3 1/3 innings for the win.
 
Andreas Boglis notched two RBI for the Ravens.
 
Goldey-Beacom entered ranked fourth in the East Region according to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Preseason Poll and Franklin Pierce is fifth.
 
The Lightning in the nightcap opened a 1-0 lead in the last of the second.  Senior Jaden Dickerson (New Castle, DE), freshman Jaime Neris Jr. (Philadelphia, PA) and DiSabatino all drew one-out walks before senior Nick Harkins (Newark, DE) lifted a sacrifice fly.
 
However, the Mavericks plated three in the fourth for a 3-1 lead.  John Nisco lined an RBI double, Sean McAdams followed with a run-scoring single and David Bernard Jr. had an RBI double.
 
Dickerson led of the last of the frame with a solo homer to make it 3-2, but Connor Ruland got a two-run single in the sixth for Mercy and a three-run cushion.
 
GBC got one back in the seventh.  Charles had a leadoff single, took second on a wild pitch, stole third and scored on a groundout from Jolikko.
 
Junior Kory Williams (Pennsauken, NJ) in his debut for the Navy Blue and Vegas Gold struck out 10 over 5 2/3 innings before senior Mikey Hawbaker (Hagerstown, MD) struck out five over 3 1/3 frames.  Charles ended with three hits.
 
Ryan DiNapoli struck out two over 1 2/3 relief innings for the win and Samuel Gil got out of a jam in the ninth for the save.
 
Goldey-Beacom (2-1) next Friday is back in Cary to battle Frostburg State for a 1:00 pm doubleheader.
