Goldey-Beacom Sees Five Picked for CACC Weekly Honors

2/10/2025 12:00:00 AM

The second crossover of the academic year saw Goldey-Beacom get two for Men's Basketball and three for Softball cited for weekly honors from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference.

Junior Zayon Marsh (Maplewood, NJ) was named Men's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week, sophomore Zakari McQueen (Petersburg, VA) was picked to the Weekly Honor Roll, Morgan McLane (Clayton, DE) was tabbed Pitcher of the Week, fellow senior Ariana Mirenda (Reading, PA) was named Player of the Week and freshman Josalyn McMillan (Rising Sun, MD) was picked Rookie of the Week.

Marsh had 10 rebounds apiece for Goldey-Beacom on Wednesday against Jefferson and Saturday in his squad's 89-85 triumph at Post.

Marsh once again has been all over the stat sheet in helping Goldey-Beacom remain among the conference's elite.  The first team All-CACC pick from last season is sixth in team history with 1,234 career points, third with 653 rebounds and fourth with 84 blocks.

McQueen averaged 23.0 points on 12-of-23 shooting over two games with 12 three-pointers and 10 rebounds.  He set a career-high with eight 3-pointers and fell one short of a personal best with 29 points Saturday at Post.  McQueen also scored 17 points Wednesday vs. Jefferson.

On a remarkable tear, McQueen has scored at least 20 points in six of his last 12 contests.  He is eighth in the CACC with 15.4 points per game, first with 3.4 three-pointers per game, fifth with an .839 free throw percentage and seventh with a .391 three-point percentage.

Goldey-Beacom (10-13, 7-5 CACC) sits tied with Chestnut Hill (7-5) for first place in the CACC South Division and the two face each other Tuesday in Pike Creek.  Please note that game now is a 4:00 pm start with the women going at 2:00 pm.

McLane struck out six over four innings, allowing a hit and an unearned run Friday in Goldey-Beacom's 8-7, eight-inning victory over Millersville.  It was her 23rd career win, moving into sole possession of sixth place in team history.

Looking for yet another outstanding campaign, McLane is first in team annals with six saves, fifth with 204 strikeouts and eighth with 266 1/3 innings pitches.

Mirenda batted .667 (4-for-6) on the week with two triples and an RBI.  She went 3-for-3 with two triples in game one Friday against Millersville before getting a hit in the nightcap, a 10-2 Goldey-Beacom win.

Mirenda enters after being named first team All-Atlantic East Conference with Cabrini the last two years and second team All-AEC with Wesley in 2021.

McMillan drove home the tying run in the last of the seventh inning, helping Goldey-Beacom to its game-one triumph Friday.

McMillan last year closed with 30 RBI, 16 doubles and a .985 fielding percentage for Rising Sun High School.

Goldey-Beacom is next scheduled to play February 16 at home against Saint Thomas Aquinas, beginning at noon.
