Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Lexy Yeager’s Miracle Goal With Two Seconds Left Helps Women’s Soccer to a Massive 4-3 Victory at Dominican and a Berth in the CACC Tournament

Junior Lexy Yeager (West Deptford, NJ) scored with two seconds remaining in improbable fashion, sophomore Tess Pearce (Manchester, England) found the back of the net twice and Goldey-Beacom clinched a spot in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament with a huge 4-3 win at Dominican (NY) in Orangeburg, NY.

The game was tied late when the Lightning had a corner kick in the waning seconds.  A Chargers defender looked to get the ball out and secure a point for each team in the standings.  Instead, her clear went off Yeager and into the goal for a big three points in the standings for Goldey-Beacom and none for Dominican.

Goldey-Beacom (6-7-3, 4-4-2 CACC) sits fifth in the CACC with 14 points and just one game left.  It can host a CACC quarterfinal game if it defeats Wilmington (DE) next week.

This will mark the ninth time in the last 11 competitive seasons Goldey-Beacom will partake in the CACC Tournament.

In this crucial matchup with every play magnified, it was the Lightning who first cracked the scoreboard.  Sophomore Ryley Dixon (Pilesgrove, NJ) dribbled down the right side and passed the ball in the middle.  With primarily Chargers surrounding the sphere, freshman Maddie Strayer (York, PA) found her way through the maze to score in the 13th minute for her first career goal.

Dominican was not deterred, countering with a pair of penalty-kick markers in a span of two minutes.  Emily Rath tallied in the 34th minute to level the contest and Jessie Maraia added the second in the 36th minute.

The Lightning got things all square at two in the 59th minute and it was Dixon again creating play.  She dribbled in on the right side and got one to Strayer, who directed to Pearce and the latter found the back of the net.

Goldey-Beacom in the 70th minute got into the penalty party when Dominican was whistled for a hand ball inside the box.  Pearce had her free shot saved, but cleaned up the rebound for a 3-2 visitors lead and her first career brace.

The margin lasted 66 seconds as the Chargers in the 72nd minute drew things level at three.  Maraia was sent in on a breakaway and scored to complete her brace.

Pearce had 10 shots as part of her squad's 24-12 edge and freshman Malaika Nunziata (Cape Town, South Africa) made four saves.  Stella Paton had six saves for the Chargers (4-10-3, 3-6-1).

Goldey-Beacom on Wednesday will face Wilmington at Abessinio Stadium.  Game time is at 6:00 pm with the men's contest to follow.
