In the final game of homecoming weekend, Goldey-Beacom men's soccer put on a thrilling performance against Felician and came away with the 4-3 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory.
Goldey-Beacom got itselves on the board in the 26th minute of play when a deflected shot from senior Luis Brugal (Puerto Plata, DR) found fellow senior Derrick Muhire (Kigali, Rwanda) for his first goal of the season. A big shot on the outside from sophomore Aaron Nelson (Pocomoke City, Md.) in the 39th minute gave the Lightning a 2-0 lead. Felician found the back of the net with 23 seconds left in the first half on a goal from Yusuf Mahmoud that was assisted by Sebastian Anaya.
Felician came out strong early in the second half and in the 46th minute of play, evened the score on a second goal from Yusuf Mahmoud. The Lightning then found their offensive groove and scored back to back goals in the 58th and 61st minute of play. The first came from a sky ball from sophomore Daniel Granado (Seville, Spain) that allowed for fellow sophomore Sam Ball (Salisbury, Md.) to convert on and the second came on an unassisted long-range goal from junior Ajoma Smith (Wilmington, DE).
The Golden Falcons hung around and scored their third goal of the game off of an assist from Andreas Mortensen to Ayato Kaneko in the 78th minute, but Goldey-Beacom fought hard and claimed the win.
Goldey-Beacom plays next on Thursday, when it faces Staten Island at Nancy Churchman Sawin Field in Wilmington, DE at 3:00 pm.
