Volleyball Handed 3-2 Setback by Holy Family

Goldey-Beacom dominated in the first and fourth sets, but was overcome in the fifth for a 3-2 (25-15, 23-25, 16-25, 25-19, 9-15) Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss to Holy Family at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.
 
The first set was all Lightning in which they scored eight straight to open an 18-8 lead.  Sophomore Gabi Fullwood (Powder Springs, GA) and junior Giuliana Jaku (Belluno, Italy) had two kills apiece with junior Kloe Waymel (Mulhouse, France) adding two aces.
 
The Tigers owned a combined 31-24 kills edge over the second and third sets before the Lightning leveled things in the fourth.  GBC had 15 kills and just three errors over 24 swings for a .500 percentage, thanks to six kills from freshman Kelci Gingras (Orem, UT).
 
However, Holy Family ended the match on a 7-1 run.  Ava Kidd had two kills, Keira Rogan served an ace and Morgan Marziani-Radomski recorded an ace of her own on match point.
 
Gingras continued to be a standout with 21 kills and a .462 percentage to go with nine digs.  Jaku notched 15 kills, Fullwood recorded 10, Juliana Malena (Miami, FL) had 53 assists and 10 digs with fellow sophomore Gaby Fernandez (Arecibo, PR) adding 15 digs for the Lightning.
 
Mackenzie Layton pounded 19 kills to go with a .412 percentage, Shelby Kinzer had 14 kills with Mia Wise dishing 57 assists for the Tigers.
 
Holy Family (16-6, 7-2 CACC) completed the season sweep of Goldey-Beacom (11-10, 5-4) and now holds a two-match lead for second place in the CACC South Division with six matches remaining.
 
Goldey-Beacom on Friday hosts Bowie State at 7:00 pm.
