Game Recap: Volleyball |

Gaby Fernandez Reaches 1,000 Career Digs in Volleyball’s 3-1 Triumph at Felician

Sophomore Gaby Fernandez (Arecibo, PR) became the 10th player in team history to reach 1,000 career digs, helping Goldey-Beacom to a 3-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory (25-16, 25-15, 25-27, 25-17) at Felician in Rutherford, NJ.

Fernandez, picked second team All-CACC a season ago, has been a defensive stalwart during her two seasons in Pike Creek and reached a milestone that seemingly seemed inevitable.  She had 20 digs on the day and now is at 1,005 career.  The school record of 1,463 is held by Clare Phillips (2002-05).

The Lightning cruised in the first two sets, gaining a 17-10 kills edge in only committing five errors.  The Golden Falcons in each set had five kills and eight errors, combining for a -.085 hitting percentage.

The fourth set ended with the visitors going on a 19-12 run in which freshman Kelci Gingras (Orem, UT) had three kills and the team forced the Golden Falcons overall in the set to commit eight errors.

Sophomore Juliana Malena (Miami, FL) for the match had 26 assists and nine digs with Gingras adding nine kills and eight digs for the Lightning (11-9, 5-3 CACC).

Sandra Galas had 10 kills and 16 digs with Sophia Watterson totaling 16 assists for Felician (6-14, 3-4).

Goldey-Beacom on Tuesday hosts Holy Family, beginning at 7:00 pm.
