Volleyball Makes it Five Alive With 3-0 Triumph at Georgian Court

Goldey-Beacom won its fifth straight match overall and ended its 12-match skid against Georgian Court with a 3-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory (25-18, 25-18, 25-17) in Lakewood, NJ.
 
Goldey-Beacom (8-7, 2-1 CACC) in the first set owned a decisive 16-6 kills edge with a .308 hitting percentage vs. .027 for Georgian Court.  Junior Giuliana Jaku (Belluno, Italy) had eight kills and a .538 percentage in the set with sophomore Juliana Malena (Miami, FL), the reigning CACC Setter of the Week, adding 12 assists and seven digs.
 
The percentage for the Lightning in set two hit .448 with 16 kills and just three errors over 29 swings.  GBC ended the set on a 14-7 run thanks to three kills apiece from sophomore Gabi Fullwood (Powder Springs, GA) and freshman Kelci Gingras (Orem, UT).
 
Fullwood and Gingras had four kills apiece in the set with junior Kloe Waymel (Mulhouse, France) adding three.
 
The third set was more of the same with Goldey-Beacom amassing 12 kills and a .360 percentage, thanks to Jaku's five kills and Fullwood's three.  The Lightning for the match recorded a .360 percentage against .107 for the Lions (4-10, 1-2) and owned a 44-29 kills edge.
 
Jaku pounded a season-best 15 kills to go with a .414 hitting percentage, Malena totaled 36 assists and 12 digs for her seventh double-double of the year and fifth in her last six matches with sophomore Gaby Fernandez (Arecibo, PR) adding 17 digs.
 
Fullwood, the reigning CACC Player of the Week, recorded eight kills and five blocks with Gingras, picked to the league's Weekly Honor Roll, adding nine kills.
 
Ava Churnesky had 12 kills, Iciar Zayas dished 20 assists and Carmen Rivera added 15 digs for Georgian Court.
 
The winning streak is Goldey-Beacom's longest since a seven-match run in 2005, punctuated by a 3-0 victory over University of the Sciences for the program's lone CACC crown.  The victory is the Lightning's first over the Lions since October 28, 2017.
 
Goldey-Beacom on Saturday is home against Post on Saturday as part of Homecoming & Lightning Family Weekend.  First serve is at noon.
