1/6/2025 12:00:00 AM

Goldey-Beacom opened the new year with a combined three victories to go with three picked for weekly honors by the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference.

Sophomore Zakari McQueen (Petersburg, VA) was named the Men's Basketball Player of the Week, Tre Powell (Mount Laurel, NJ) was tabbed Rookie of the Week and senior Julie Kulesza (Wilmington, DE) was selected to the Women's Basketball Weekly Honor Roll.

McQueen continued his stunning play by scoring a career-best 29 points on 11-of-17 shooting with five 3-pointers, five rebounds and two assists in Goldey-Beacom's 84-80 triumph Saturday over Bloomfield.

It has been a remarkable stretch for McQueen, who has averaged 24.3 points over his last three contests.  One of three for the Lightning to start all 14 games, McQueen also has scored at least 20 points four times this season with all in the last six contests.

McQueen was named to the Weekly Honor Roll on December 9 and 23.

Powell scored 17 points to go with eight rebounds, six assists and three 3-pointers Saturday against Bloomfield.

Also on an impressive run, Powell is averaging 15.3 points over his last four games in shooting 54 percent (20-for-37) from the floor.  This included 22 points on 5-of-8 shooting December 14 at Franklin Pierce.

Kulesza averaged 18.0 points, 5.0 assists and 4.5 rebounds over two games to go with five 3-pointers.  She poured in 20 points Saturday in Goldey-Beacom's 74-66 win over Bloomfield after getting 16 and nine rebounds Thursday in her squad's 62-54 victory at Staten Island.

In her lone season for the Lightning after playing her first three at Bucknell, Kulesza has played a big role in the team's four-game winning streak.  She has scored at least 20 points four times this season, including a career-best 31 points December 18 at Saint Thomas Aquinas.

This is Kulesza's third appearance on the Weekly Honor Roll after being named the league's Player of the Week on December 16 and 23.

Both teams on Saturday are home against Dominican (NY).  The women's game is at 1:00 pm and the men go at 3:00 pm.
