Goldey-Beacom had its home opener at Banning Park in Wilmington, DE, but ended the night dropping the match 2-0 to the District of Columbia.
UDC took control of the game quickly with a third-minute goal by Ignacio Pericet, assisted by Ignacio Lopez. This was UDC's Ignacio Pericet's first goal of the season.
Pericet added his second goal of the season in the 24th minute, assisted by Ignacio Lopez and Brandon Johnson. The Lightning had a few close chances on goal, but remained scoreless throughout the game.
The second half saw relatively equal play all around, resulting in both teams remaining scoreless in the half.
Freshman Daniel Granado (Seville, Spain), Lucas Fernandes (Belo Horizonte, Brazil), fellow junior Emanuel Bustos (Miami, Fla.) and freshman Johs Herden (Borgholzhausen, Germany) all finished the night with two shots apiece. Junior Jamel Yasin (Woodbury, N.J.) ended the night with 1 save for GBC (0-2).
Pericet had three shots, Martiniez recorded two and Giovanni Llamas made three saves for UDC (1-0-1).
Goldey-Beacom plays Bloomsburg at home on Wednesday at 4:00 pm.
