Women’s Soccer Defeated at Millersville



Goldey-Beacom aimed for its first victory of the new campaign, but was dealt a 5-1 loss at Millersville amid wet conditions in Millersville, PA.
 
Millersville wasted little time, cracking the scoreboard in the seventh minute.  Lia Francis took a feed from Maddie Zielke and scored for a 1-0 lead.  The Marauders in the ninth minute doubled their cushion and it was Francis again, scoring off a pass from Olivia Fleurant.
 
A brace was not enough for Francis, who completed her hat trick in the 16th minute.  She had her initial shot saved by senior Nikki Cashin (Ridley, PA), but followed her attempt by finding the back of the net for a 3-0 margin.
 
The lead became 4-0 before the Lightning got on the board.  Senior Sia Diakos (Frankford, DE) recovered a blocked pass and fed one from the left to freshman Ryley Dixon (Pilesgrove, NJ), who deflected it home for her first collegiate goal.
 
Cashin ended with four saves for GBC (0-2).
 
Isabel Coy and Shelby Derkosh also scored for the Marauders (1-0) with Francis recording four shots.
 
Goldey-Beacom on Wednesday is at Molloy for a 4:00 pm match in Rockville Centre, NY.
