Volleyball Falls, 3-0, at Mercy

Looking to finish over .500 on its road trip, Goldey-Beacom was handed a 3-0 loss (22-25, 18-25, 19-25), at Mercy in Dobbs Ferry, NY.
 
Goldey-Beacom started Saturday's match less than 13 hours after completing the last of two Friday tilts.  Things opened Friday with a 3-1 loss to Queens (NY) before a 3-1 triumph over homestanding Southern Connecticut State.
 
Saturday hoped to be promising as the Lightning dropped a close set despite holding the Mavericks to a .200 hitting percentage.  But Mercy got a 17-8 kills edge in the second set and closed with an overall 46-26 cushion.
 
Junior Giuliana Jaku (Frontin, Italy) had 10 kills to just one error, senior Piper Nanouski (Chicago, IL) totaled seven kills, Ada Koksal (Istanbul, Turkiye) recorded 17 assists and fellow freshman Gaby Fernandez (Arecibo, PR) added 16 digs for GBC (1-2).
 
Grace Dilena had 15 kills, Gabriela Bieniek notched 14 and Adriana Rivera Rodriguez recorded 41 assists for the Mavericks (1-1).
 
Goldey-Beacom on Tuesday plays its home opener against West Chester.  Match time is at 7:00 pm.
