Volleyball Falls, 3-1, in Home Opener vs. West Chester



The emergence of Goldey-Beacom's volleyball program was on display in the home opener, a 3-1 loss (17-25, 20-25, 25-20, 16-25) to West Chester at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.
 
The third set was a powerful showing for the Lightning, who had 14 kills and a .310 hitting percentage.  Caitlyn Burch (Mechanicsville, MD) had five kills in the set with fellow senior Piper Nanouski (Chicago, IL) adding four.
 
But the Golden Rams (2-3) had their way in the fourth by notching 15 kills and a .364 percentage.
 
Freshman Gaby Fernandez (Arecibo, PR) was outstanding on defense with 24 digs, giving the Lightning (1-3) a noticeable presence at libero.  Burch, named Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Player of the Week, pounded 13 kills with a .242 percentage.  Nanouski recorded 13 kills and freshman Ada Koksal (Istanbul, Turkiye) added 41 assists.
 
Zoe Haines amassed 17 kills, CeCe Isenberg recorded nine and Lacie Brown added 25 assists to go with 11 digs for West Chester.
 
Goldey-Beacom on Friday visits Bowie State for a 6:00 pm start.
