Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer Opens 2024 Campaign With 1-0 Loss at Bloomsburg

Goldey-Beacom began its season 2024 season at a formidable Bloomsburg squad and, despite a strong defensive showing, was handed a 1-0 setback in Bloomsburg, PA.

The game marked the debut of head coach Mitch Kazanjian as the squad looks to build off last season, reaching double figures in results for a seventh straight year.  Last season's team showed great defense by allowing just six first-half goals and that carried into this year with a 0-0 halftime score.

The Lightning continued to do a great job preventing the Huskies from cracking the scoreboard, but that changed in the 61st minute.  Sydney Donovan had the ball roughly 25 yards from the goal and parked one just under the crossbar, with Brooke Foster and Marlee Potillo getting the assists.

Nikki Cashin (Ridley, PA) made six saves and fellow senior Sia Diakos (Frankford, DE) had a shot for Goldey-Beacom (0-1).

Foster totaled four shots with Samantha Merklin making one save for the Huskies (1-0).

Goldey-Beacom on Saturday visits Millersville for a 1:00 pm contest.
