Volleyball Gains Saturday Split



Goldey-Beacom closed its day with a 3-1 victory (27-25, 25-21, 20-25, 25-20) over Millersville after opening with a 3-0 setback (19-25, 23-25, 17-25) to West Chester at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.
 
The Millersville encounter was a tight one that saw the Lightning get 18 kills in the opening set and 17 in the second.  A key in the second was smart play that saw GBC only commit three errors and Millersville induced into seven.
 
Fast forward to the fourth, when GBC pounded 14 kills and withstood a solid attack from the visitors to get the win.
 
Caitlyn Burch (Mechanicsville, MD) recorded 17 kills, fellow senior Piper Nanouski (Chicago, IL) had 14 and junior Giuliana Jaku (Frontin, Italy) notched 12 and 19 digs for GBC (7-7).  Gaby Fernandez (Arecibo, PR) totaled 18 digs and fellow freshman Ada Koksal (Turkiye, Istanbul) added 43 assists and 13 digs.
 
Emma Kerwin pounded 17 kills, Caroline Halsey notched 15 and Taylor Walter added 11 for the Marauders (8-6).  Emma Ludwig had 48 assists and 18 digs with Madison Von Neida adding 20 digs.
 
In the opener, West Chester (6-6) over the final two sets combined for 30 kills and closed the match with a 40-33 kills edge.  It also ended the encounter with a .243 hitting percentage.
 
Burch continued to a dominant player in the middle, getting 13 kills and a .385 hitting percentage.  Fernandez recorded 19 digs with Koksal adding 27 assists.
 
Anna Richardson pounded 13 kills for the Golden Rams, Zoe Haines got 10, Lacie Brown dished 33 assists and Sydney Heffner amassed 14 digs.
 
Goldey-Beacom next Wednesday is home against Georgian Court, beginning at 7:00 pm.
