Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Second-Half Barrage Leads Men’s Soccer to 3-0 Victory Over Chestnut Hill

Goldey-Beacom dominated play in the second half, during which it found the back of the net three times for a 3-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference win over Chestnut Hill at Nancy Churchman Sawin Field in Wilmington, DE.

The Lightning easily controlled the ball most of the second half and it was a matter of time before their first goal was scored.  That was courtesy of junior Emanuel Bustos (Miami, FL), who saw senior Colby Niggebrugge (Middletown, DE) hit him with a cross from the left side and scored in the 65th minute for his team-leading third goal of the year.

A second goal was inevitable and that came in the 75th minute.  Great passing from Bustos and Lucas Fernandes (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) led to the ball finding fellow junior Derrick Muhire (Kigali, Rwanda), who scored for his first tally of the season and a 2-0 margin.

The exclamation point came with three seconds left, when senior Pedro Maia (Joao Pessoa, Brazil) netted his first goal of the year off Fernandes' third assist of the campaign.

GBC had an eye-popping 16-1 shots edge in the second half and seven fouls from Chestnut Hill could not slow down the home side.  Freshman Ogun Unal (Frankfurt, Germany) had eight shots, Niggebrugge recorded three and junior Jamel Yasin (Woodbury, NJ) made two saves.

Andres Felipe Gomez took two shots for the Griffins (0-3-3, 0-2-1 CACC).

Goldey-Beacom (3-4) is 2-0 in the CACC for the first time since 2019 and has two shutout league wins to open the season for the first time since 2014.

Goldey-Beacom on Saturday visits Caldwell as part of a doubleheader with the women's team.  Game time is at 1:30 pm, which follows the 11:00 am women's match between the same schools.
