Volleyball Gets Another Split in Western Maryland

Goldey-Beacom in its first match of the day got a 3-1 victory (25-15, 23-25, 25-13, 25-16) over Kutztown before dropping a 3-0 contest (17-25, 19-25, 16-25) to Indianapolis in Frostburg, MD.

Goldey-Beacom had an early alarm clock Saturday morning before awaking to more stellar volleyball, notching a 16-7 kills edge in the first set with a .364 hitting percentage.  Seniors Caitlyn Burch (Mechanicsville, MD) and Piper Nanouski (Chicago, IL) continued to be dominant at the net with the former getting six kills and the latter amassing five.

The third set provided similar results with the Lightning posting 15 kills and a .355 percentage, thanks to four more kills from Burch.  Defense was the story in the fourth with the Golden Bears coaxed into nine attack errors and a .000 percentage.

Burch had 18 kills and a .625 hitting percentage, Nanouski recorded 17 kills, Gaby Fernandez (Arecibo, PR) amassed 22 digs, fellow freshman Ada Koksal (Istanbul, Turkiye) dished 39 assists and junior Giuliana Jaku (Frontin, Italy) had nine kills to go with 11 digs.

Goldey-Beacom (6-5) then looked to leave Western Maryland with a winning record on the trip, but had to settle for .500.  UIndy finished with a 39-29 kills edge overall and took control in the third set with a .394 hitting percentage.

Burch closed with nine kills, Jaku notched six, Fernandez amassed 13 digs and Koksal recorded 21 assists.

Nanouski over four matches ended the weekend with 54 kills and presently is ninth in team history with 707 career.  Burch closed with 53 kills and was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Fernandez totaled 81 digs and Koksal had 138 aces.

Sophia Parlanti pounded 12 kills and Claire Morris had 30 assists for the Greyhounds (10-2), who had 3-0 wins in all four matches this weekend and overall have won nine straight.

Goldey-Beacom on Tuesday visits Chestnut Hill for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match, beginning at 7:00 pm.
