Volleyball Dominates in 3-0 Victory Over Holy Family

A statement match turned into a statement victory with Goldey-Beacom taking control early and not relinquishing in a 3-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory (25-18, 25-20, 25-17) over Holy Family at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.

Playing against a perennial stalwart, Goldey-Beacom showed no trepidation in the first league match under new coach Alexa Poss.  This determination and drive resulted in the Navy Blue and Vegas Gold winning their CACC opener for the first time since 2017.

The opening set was about forcing errors and the Lightning did just that with the Tigers committing nine that resulted in a -.030 hitting percentage.

The second set defined efficiency with GBC getting 14 kills and just two errors over 27 attacks for a .444 percentage.  Senior Caitlyn Burch (Mechanicsville, MD) recorded six kills in the set.

The finale saw a minor surge from the Tigers, but the Lightning held it off in only getting breached for a .079 percentage.

Burch again was a major factor in the middle, recording 14 kills and just one error over 23 attacks for a .565 percentage.  This marks the sixth time in the team's seven matches this season she had at least 10 kills.  She also recorded at least a .400 percentage in four of those matches.

Gaby Fernandez (Arecibo, PR), the reigning CACC Defensive Player of the Week, had 12 digs with fellow freshman Ada Koksal (Istanbul, Turkiye) getting 30 assists for the Lightning (4-3, 1-0 CACC) in their third straight win.

Gianna DiPilato amassed nine kills and Morgan Steck recorded 28 assists for the Tigers (2-5, 0-1), who were forced into 21 errors and a .129 percentage.

Goldey-Beacom on Friday is in Frostburg, MD to face Edinboro at 1:00 pm and Frostburg State after 5:00 pm.
