Goldey-Beacom received a first-half goal from freshman Johs Herden (Borgholzhausen, Germany) and three second-half goals from Aaron Nelson (Pocomoke City, Md.), fellow freshman Ogün Ünal (Frankfurt, Germany) and senior Kel Ordonez (Georgetown, DE) en route to a thrilling 4-1 triumph over Pittsburgh-Johnstown at Nancy Churchman Sawin Field in Wilmington, DE.
The Lightning scored their first goal from Herden off an assist from Derrick Muhire in the 19th minute. Pittsburgh-Johnstown was able to tie the game in the 36th minute off a goal by Jacob Palange, assisted by Tristan Ralph.
GBC capitalized on offense in the second-half with an early goal by Ünal in the 56th minute, assisted by Lucas Fernandes (Belo Horizonte, Brazil). The Lightning scored two more goals in the half, with Ordonez, assisted by Ogün Ünal, scoring in the 61st minute and Nelson, assisted by Pedro Maia (Joao Pessoa, Brazi) and Pedro Montanes (Zaragoza, Spain), scoring in the 83rd minute.
All goals scored by Goldey-Beacom were the first of the season for each player.
For UPJ, Alexzander Toto finished with three shots and goalie PJ Derksen had five saves. Goalie Pedro Montanes ended the game with two saves for the Lightning.
Goldey-Beacom plays again at Nancy Churchman Sawin Field in Wilmington, DE on Wednesday at 4pm against Daemen.
