It’s Miller Time: Baseball Rides the High Life in 6-0 Victory Over Post in the NCAA Tournament

Sophomore Nate Miller (Mechanicsburg, PA) and senior Darin Miller (Mifflinburg, PA) each were outstanding in helping Goldey-Beacom to a 6-0 victory over Post on day one of the NCAA Tournament in Uniondale, NY.

GBC (34-19) for the second straight year goes to the winners bracket for day two to face second-seeded and host Molloy on Friday after 2:00 pm.  Post (28-20) will battle New Haven in an elimination game earlier in the day at 11:00 am.

Goldey-Beacom established momentum in the first inning, ignoring a fierce wind that blowing in looked to be a 10th man on defense.  However, first team All-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference third baseman Darin Miller would have none of it.  After junior Christian Petrillo (New Brunswick, NJ) had a leadoff single up the middle, Miller crushed a two-run homer to straight-away center field for a 2-0 margin.

The same combination was on point in the eighth inning for a 3-0 GBC lead.  Petrillo used his blazing speed to beat out an infield single and Miller again came through, lining a double to left-center field that easily plated Petrillo.

Excelling in the NCAA Tournament is nothing new for Miller.  In last year's East 2 Regional hosted by the Lightning, he ended batting .526 (10-for-19) over five games with a double, three home runs and seven RBI.

Goldey-Beacom kept it going with three runs in the top of the ninth for a 6-0 margin.  Junior Adam McEvoy (Sewell, NJ) lined an RBI single and Petrillo followed with a two-run double to left-center field.

The Lightning more than held their own in the field thanks to Nate Miller, who tossed a three-hit shutout and retired 14 straight batters from the first through sixth innings.  Showing incredible dominance on the hill only having to work out of few jams, Miller struck out five and walked just three.

Petrillo had three hits with Darin Miller, McEvoy and sophomore Anthony Charles (Mullica Hill, NJ) getting two apiece.

The regional opened in the same week it was learned junior shortstop Braden Kolmansberger (Lewisberry, PA) and senior designated hitter Garrett Musey (Millville, NJ) each were tabbed second team All-East Region by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).
