Game Recap: Baseball |

Darin Miller Saves the Day in Baseball’s Sweep at Post

Senior Darin Miller (Mifflinburg, PA) clubbed the tying three-run homer in the final inning of game one, buoying Goldey-Beacom to a 5-4 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory at Post before a 10-8 triumph in Waterbury, CT.

Goldey-Beacom in game one was in a 4-0 hole entering the fifth inning when the comeback began.  Junior Christian Petrillo (New Brunswick, NJ) lined a leadoff single, took third on a pair of groundouts and scored when Miller stroked a double down the left-field line.

The Lightning in the seventh completed the rally.  Junior Braden Kolmansberger (Lewisberry, PA) reached on a one-out bunt single, took second on an error, stole third and senior Garrett Musey (Millville, NJ) followed with a walk.  That set the stage for Miller, who turned the momentum with his three-run blast for a 4-4 tie.

But the fireworks in the inning were not completed.  Sophomore Anthony Charles (Mullica Hill, NJ), junior Nick Harkins (Newark, DE) and senior Demetrius Johnson (Glassboro, NJ) all walked to load the bases with two outs before pinch-hitter junior Mitch Jolikko (Middletown, DE) was hit by a pitch for the go-ahead run.

Post could not recover, getting only two baserunners the last four innings after grabbing a 4-0 lead through three.

Miller had two hits to go with his four RBI, Kolmansberger rapped three hits and Wilmington, DE senior Justin Jump (5-2) struck out six over seven innings for the Lightning.

Chris Corchado had two hits that included an RBI double and Nick Semon had to deal with a tough no-decision after striking out seven over six innings.

The Lightning in game two were down 3-1 entering the second when another rally ensued.  They loaded the bases with two outs and Petrillo used his speed and bat to change things, hitting an inside-the-park grand slam for a 5-3 lead.

Charles lined an RBI double in the third for a 6-3 GBC cushion before Michael Pavelchak made it a two-run game for the Eagles with a sacrifice fly.

Goldey-Beacom (20-11, 6-3 CACC) again looked for a big inning and got it in the fifth.  Petrillo drew a bases-loaded walk for his fifth RBI of the game and Kolmansberger continued his stellar play with a three-run triple for a 10-4 margin.

The Eagles (15-16, 7-3) closed to 10-8 in the last of the fifth, keyed by RBI singles from Jimmy Brennan, Brian Zweigbaum and Pavelchak.

But the Lightning held on thanks to junior Ryan Pozo (Fords, NJ), who tossed 2 1/3 scoreless frames for his first save of the year.

Kolmansberger recorded three hits, extending his hitting streak to 15 games, and Miller added two.  Mechanicsburg, PA sophomore Nate Miller (5-1) recorded his fourth straight victory, striking out two over 4 2/3 innings.

Goldey-Beacom on Tuesday is home to face Holy Family in the first meeting between the schools.  First pitch in the single game at Doyle Field is at 2:00 pm.
