Baseball Clinches Spot in the CACC Tournament With Doubleheader Split at Wilmington

Senior Justin Jump (Wilmington, DE) pitched a one-hit shutout in game one, lifting Goldey-Beacom to a 17-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference triumph at Wilmington (DE) before his team's 5-4 loss in the nightcap in New Castle, DE.

Jump simply was outstanding in tossing his second career shutout and recording his 13th career victory, tying his brother Trevor Jump (2018-22) for third in team history and moving one win behind Mitch Guerrieri (2018-22) and Anthony DiMartino (2019-23).  Jump struck out three over seven innings, only allowing a second-inning single by Erik Grady.

The Lightning put up a crooked number in every inning except the third and used four long balls to win via mercy rule.  Garrett Musey (Millville, NJ) hit a three-run shot in the first, fellow senior Darin Miller (Mifflinburg, PA) cranked a two-run blast in the fourth with senior Kyle Walker (Wilmington, DE) and sophomore Anthony Charles (Mullica Hill, NJ) each getting a solo shot in the fifth.

Miller had four hits and six RBI, the same total he put up February 18 against Saint Rose.  Musey notched two hits and four RBI with Walker, Charles and junior Braden Kolmansberger (Lewisberry, PA) all recording two hits.

The second game was far more competitive and looked good for the Lightning with three runs in the top of the second for a 4-1 lead.  Dante DiSabatino (Middletown, DE) lined a two-out single, fellow junior Adam McEvoy (Sewell, NJ) was hit by a pitch, both scored on a triple from junior Christian Petrillo (New Brunswick, NJ) and the latter reached home on a wild pitch.

But the Wildcats (29-17, 15-9 CACC) got the last four runs, including three in the sixth, for the win.  AJ Tropiano lined an RBI single in the fourth, he added a run-scoring single in the sixth, Garrett Quinn had an RBI grounder later in the frame for the tie and Shawn Edevane got a bunt single to plate Tropiano.

Petrillo had two hits and sophomore Nate Miller (Mechanicsburg, PA) struck out six over 5 1/3 innings.  Kolmansberger did not get a hit in game two, seeing his school-record 28-game hitting streak come to an end.

Goldey-Beacom (29-17, 13-9) on Sunday hosts Dominican (NY) on Senior Day in a noon doubleheader to end the regular season.  A sweep will give GBC the No. 2 seed in the South Division and home games in the first round of the CACC Tournament.
