Baseball Grabs No. 2 Seed in the CACC South Division With Doubleheader Sweep Over Dominican (NY)

Goldey-Beacom clinched the number two seed from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference South Division a third straight year with a doubleheader sweep, 13-5 and 11-3, over Dominican (NY) at Doyle Field in Hockessin, DE.

This time, GBC (31-17, 15-9 CACC) will host Wilmington-DE (15-9) in the best-of-three series to see who advances to the four-team championship weekend.  Friday will feature a noon doubleheader at Doyle Field and Saturday's if-necessary contest will be at 1:00 pm.

The Lightning in game one exploded for seven runs in the last of the fourth inning for an 8-4 lead.  Christian Petrillo (New Brunswick, NJ) scored the go-ahead run on a throwing error and fellow junior Mitch Jolikko (Middletown, DE) continued his heralded play by ending the scoring with a two-run triple.

Junior Dante DiSabatino (Middletown, DE) again was on a roll with three hits and three RBI, senior Darin Miller (Mifflinburg, PA) had the same line with Jolikko, Garrett Musey (Millville, NJ), fellow senior Kyle Walker (Wilmington, DE) and sophomore Anthony Charles (Mullica Hill, NJ) each getting two hits.

Mount Bethel, PA sophomore Kevin Dillon (6-1) came out of the bullpen allowing one run and one hit over two innings.  He tied senior Justin Jump (Wilmington, DE) for the team lead and moved within one of Jake Kelchner (Collegeville, PA) for the squad's single-season record set last year.

David Knepper, Jean Nunez and Anthony Nigro had two hits apiece for the Chargers (15-33, 9-16).

Game two saw the Lightning abridge the scoreboard in each inning except the fifth.  The highlights included Musey recording a pair of RBI singles, Petrillo clubbing a three-run homer in the fourth and the ever-popular senior Michael Baginski (Millville, NJ) getting a run-scoring single in the sixth.

Petrillo notched two hits and four RBI, Musey recorded two and two with Miller adding two hits.  Hagerstown, MD junior Mikey Hawbaker (3-0) came out of the bullpen to allow just one run and two hits over three innings.

Jolikko has five hits and eight RBI over his last five contests with DiSabatino getting six and six over the same period.
