Baseball Rallies for 10-Inning Victory Over Wilmington; Braden Kolmansberger Breaks School Record for Longest Hitting Streak

There are no words, but I will try.

Goldey-Beacom astonishingly rallied for seven runs over the final three innings and junior Braden Kolmansberger (Lewisberry, PA) established a new school record for the longest hitting streak in his team's 10-9, 10-inning Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference win over Wilmington (DE) in Hockessin, DE.

GBC, which was down 6-0 after four innings, trailed 9-3 in the last of the eighth when the rally began.  Junior Dante DiSabatino (Middletown, DE) got an RBI on an error that plated sophomore Anthony Charles (Mullica Hill, NJ) and Kolmansberger ripped a two-run single for a 9-6 contest.

The Lightning continued their business in the ninth.  Senior Kyle Walker (Wilmington, DE) got a one-out single, Charles walked and junior Mitch Jolikko (Middletown, DE) continued his outstanding day with a two-run double for a 9-8 contest.  DiSabatino then took his turn by lining a single up the middle to plate Jolikko and level things.

Piscataway, NJ junior Gage Bendix (1-1) was outstanding out of the bullpen for GBC, coming on with two outs in the ninth and recording the last four outs.  This included three strikeouts all totaled and leaving the go-ahead run on base in the 10th inning.

Goldey-Beacom in the 10th used some two-out magic for the win.  Walker again was the catalyst with a single, Charles again walked and this time Jolikko walked to load the bases.  Defensive replacement Jimmy Hallman (Washington Twp., NJ) came up and never had to take the bat off his shoulder, seeing a wild pitch go by him that allowed Walker to cross home for the Lightning's only lead of the game.

Kolmansberger continued to be a major story, extending his hitting streak to 27 games that sets a new school record he shared with Walker.  Kolmansberger now is batting .476 (49-for-103) during this incredible run.

Jolikko had two hits, a three-run homer and five RBI, DiSabatino recorded two hits and two RBI with Walker rapping three hits.

Matt Warrington was outstanding for the Wildcats (23-17, 14-8 CACC), striking out nine over seven innings and taking a no-hitter into the fifth inning.  Sean Glatts had three hits and three RBI with Brandon Grygo adding three hits.

Goldey-Beacom (28-16, 12-8) now moves into sole possession of third place in the CACC South Division, one game ahead of Holy Family (11-9).

GBC and Wilmington on Saturday face each other in a noon doubleheader in New Castle, DE.
