Demetrius Johnson’s 12th-Inning Single Highlights Baseball’s Split Vs. Felician

Senior Demetrius Johnson (Glassboro, NJ) singled home the winning run in the bottom of the 12th inning, lifting Goldey-Beacom to a wild 5-4 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference triumph over Felician before an 8-0 loss in the nightcap at Doyle Field in Hockessin, DE.

Calen Kampes (Colora, MD) opened the last of the 12th with an infield single and he was sacrificed to second by fellow junior Dante DiSabatino (Middletown, DE).  Junior Nick Harkins (Newark, DE) almost won it as he hit a line drive ticketed for left-center field, but shortstop Alex Torres made a leaping catching for the second out.

The Golden Falcons were not so fortunate on the next at-bat.  Johnson crushed one into a driving wind to left-center field that could not be reached and finally got down, allowing Kampes to score.

Sophomore Anthony Charles (Mullica Hill, NJ) had a two-run double in the first, senior Kyle Walker (Wilmington, DE) recorded an RBI single in the third and Johnson added a run-scoring single in the fourth to give GBC a 4-0 lead.

But Felician scored four unearned runs over the last two innings of regulation for a 4-4 tie.  Jack Scrivanic was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the sixth, Jose David Medrano got a sacrifice fly later in the frame and two runs scored in the seventh on an error.

Junior Braden Kolmansberger (Lewisberry, PA) rapped two hits, senior Justin Jump (Wilmington, DE) got a tough no-decision despite six strikeouts over 6 1/3 innings and junior Gage Bendix (Piscataway, NJ) struck out four over 4 2/3 relief frames for GBC (25-13, 9-5 CACC).

Ricky Voss notched two hits for Felician (22-19, 11-6).

The Golden Falcons in game two scored twice in the third to open the scoring.  Dillon DiBartolomeo dropped a great squeeze bunt for the first run, Julian Uejima lined an RBI double and Thomas Kendrick added a run-scoring single.

A five-run seventh inning was highlighted by Voss crushing a two-run homer.

Kolmansberger singled to extend his incredible hitting streak to 21 games, during which he is batting .532 (41-for-77) with nine doubles, a triple, 10 home runs and 42 RBI.  The streak is five off the school record set last season by Walker, who in game two had two hits.

Dauri Genao rapped three hits, Voss and Uejima notched two apiece, Logan Waltz struck out four over 4 1/3 innings for the win and Mike Caldon struck out six over 2 2/3 frames for the save.

Goldey-Beacom on Wednesday is at Chestnut Hill, beginning at 6:00 pm in North Wales, PA.
