Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball Makes It Seven Straight Victories With Doubleheader Sweep of Lincoln (PA)

Goldey-Beacom ran roughshod over Lincoln (PA) in game one to the tune of a 19-0 victory and received more solid play in game two, notching its seven straight win with a 4-1 triumph at Doyle Field in Hockessin, DE.

The first game was a hitters' paradise with the Lightning getting four runs in the first, nine in the third and five in the fourth.  The third inning saw senior Garrett Musey (Millville, NJ) club his 29th career home run, extending his own school record, and senior Michael Baginski (Millville, NJ) go deep in the fifth for his first career long ball.

Senior Kyle Walker (Wilmington, DE) and sophomore Anthony Charles (Mullica Hill, NJ) each had three hits and four RBI, Musey and junior Dante DiSabatino (Middletown, DE) recorded two hits and two RBI apiece, Baginski and Adam McEvoy (Sewell, NJ) notched two hits apiece and fellow junior Braden Kolmansberger (Lewisberry, PA) extended his hitting streak to 17 games with a two-run double.

Collegeville, PA senior Jake Kelchner (1-4) struck out four over five scoreless innings, allowing just four hits and two walks.

Game two was a battle that saw Musey in the first inning lift a sacrifice fly and junior Christian Petrillo (New Brunswick, NJ) in the fourth follow suit for a 2-0 GBC lead.  Solomon Devard in the fifth inning got the Lions (7-23) to 2-1 with a solo homer.

But the Lightning (23-11) got two big insurance runs in the sixth.  Senior Demetrius Johnson (Glassboro, NJ), walked, stole two bases and junior Matt Benner (Souderton, PA) walked.  Petrillo then greeted new pitcher Wesley Hogan with a bunt single to plate Johnson and Charles followed with a squeeze bunt that scored Benner.

Telford, PA freshman Jackson Morrissette (1-0) was outstanding in getting his first collegiate victory, striking out five over five innings in surrendering just one run and three hits.  Senior Karl Schmidt (Lincoln U., PA) struck out four over two scoreless innings for his seventh career save, extending his own program record.

The seven-game winning streak is one shy of the school record, accomplished twice during the 2021 campaign.

Goldey-Beacom this Saturday faces Holy Family in a noon doubleheader at FDR Park in Philadelphia.
