No. 25 Goldey-Beacom closed its four-game weekend series between regionally ranked foes with a 12-11 loss to Queens (NY) in the opener before an 8-4 defeat in the nightcap in Flemington, NJ.

The first game was a wild encounter that featured 23 runs and 25 hits despite runs only being scored in seven of the 18 half-innings.  It also saw four lead changes and 14 different players get at least one hit.

Goldey-Beacom eradicated a 4-0 deficit with five runs in the last of the first inning, ended when junior Adam McEvoy (Sewell, NJ) had an RBI groundout.  The margin grew to 7-4 in the second on a two-run single from senior Garrett Musey (Millville, NJ).

After climbing to 7-6, the Knights got three in the fourth for a 9-7 lead.  Francis Segarra blasted a two-run homer and Robert Jacobsen scored on a throwing error.

The Lightning regained the edge, 11-9, with four runs in the fifth.  Musey hit a leadoff homer, senior Kyle Walker (Wilmington, DE) scored on a throwing error and junior Matt Benner (Souderton, PA) lined a two-run single.

But Queens took the lead for good in the seventh.  Nick Barreiros cracked a leadoff homer and Segarra lined a two-run RBI single.

Sophomore Anthony Charles (Mullica Hill, NJ) rapped a career-high four hits with Musey and junior Braden Kolmansberger (Lewisberry, PA) getting two apiece for GBC.  Jacobsen clubbed four hits with Barreiros, Segarra and Phil Krpata notching two apiece.

The Knights in game two scored first when Thomas Napolitano Jr. was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.  Walker's RBI single in the last of the fourth brought the Lightning to a 1-1 tie.

Queens grabbed a 2-1 lead in the top of the fifth when Leo Alvarez had an RBI single.  Senior Darin Miller (Mifflinburg, PA) responded for Goldey-Beacom in the bottom of the frame with a run-scoring fielder's choice.

But the Knights (6-4) took control with five runs in the sixth for a 7-2 lead.  Alvarez, Krpata, Jorsixt Jimenez, Matt Filip and Jaden Rivera all had RBI singles.

Charles in the seventh scored on a wild pitch and Musey lined an RBI triple for the final.

Walker recorded two hits and sophomore Nate Miller (Mechanicsburg, PA) struck out nine over 4 2/3 innings for the Lightning (9-7).

Goldey-Beacom is ranked second in the East Region and Queens (NY) is third, both according to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).
