Baseball Drops Two at Caldwell

Goldey-Beacom made its way to North Jersey and was handed a couple of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference defeats, 10-4 and 3-2, at Caldwell in Caldwell, NJ.

Caldwell in game one grabbed a 5-0 lead after plating four runs in the last of the third inning.  With two out, the home side loaded the bases before Michael Cruz unloaded them with an inside-the-park grand slam.

The Lightning made it a game with three runs in the top of the fourth.  Senior Darin Miller (Mifflinburg, PA) lined an RBI triple, Braden Kolmansberger (Lewisberry, PA) followed with a run-scoring single and fellow junior Nick Harkins (Newark, DE) made it 5-3 with a two-out double.

But the Cougars all but ended things with four runs in the last of the frame for a 9-3 contest.  Zach Saunders drew a bases-loaded walk, Oscar Fajardo lifted a sacrifice fly, Liam Lombardi followed with an RBI single and Cruz then lined a run-scoring single.

Cruz had three hits and six RBI, Lombardi notched three and two with Saunders getting two hits for the Cougars.

Goldey-Beacom (16-11, 2-3 CACC) in game two got things going with two runs in the top of the first inning.  Senior Garrett Musey (Millville, NJ) was hit by a pitch with two outs, Miller singled and after a wild pitch, Kolmansberger singled them both home.

But Caldwell (6-9, 5-2) took over from there.  Fajardo got a sacrifice fly in the last of the first, Cruz tied it in the third with an RBI single and Saunders got a run-scoring groundout in the fourth for the final.

Kolmansberger's single now gives him an 11-game hitting streak.  The two-time defending CACC Player of the Week is batting .512 (21-for-41) during that stretch.

Sean Brown rapped two hits and Brandon Scalisi struck out five over seven innings for Caldwell.

Goldey-Beacom on Saturday hosts Bloomfield in a noon doubleheader at Doyle Field.
