Accomplishments Galore for Baseball in Doubleheader Sweep at Jefferson

Two school records set, three long hitting streaks extended and a doubleheader sweep were the order of the day for Goldey-Beacom with Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victories of 19-11 and 11-0 at Jefferson in Philadelphia.

Home-run derby for the Lightning in game one produced a school-record seven long balls, including three solo blasts as part of a six-run frame that gave the visitors the lead for good.  Junior Christian Petrillo (New Brunswick, NJ) went deep to make it an 8-7 deficit, Garrett Musey (Millville, NJ) crushed one to tie it and fellow senior Darin Miller (Mifflinburg, PA) touched them all for a 9-8 lead.

For Musey, it was his 27th career home run to set a new school record that he shared with Marshall Awtry.

Sophomore Anthony Charles (Mullica Hill, NJ), who already had two home runs in the game, lined an RBI single later in the inning and junior Matt Benner (Souderton, PA) roped a two-run double for a 12-8 lead.

The Rams closed to 12-10 before junior Braden Kolmansberger (Lewisberry, PA) got an RBI double in the top of the eighth for a three-run margin.

GBC then plated six more in the ninth for a 19-10 contest, keyed by Miller's three-run double and Kolmansberger's two-run blast for his second homer of the day.

Kolmansberger closed with four hits and five RBI, Miller notched three and five with Charles getting three and four.

Mouth Bethel, PA sophomore Kevin Dillon (3-1) pitched 3 1/3 relief innings for the win and junior Gage Bendix (Piscataway, NJ) tossed the final two innings for his second save of the year.

The Lightning's previous record of five home runs was accomplished twice against Wilmington, first on April 3, 2019 and again on April 27, 2022.

Joshua Lopez had a homer with four RBI and Josh Lopez rapped three hits for Jefferson.

Game two saw Kolmansberger continue his incredible hitting, rapping a two-run homer to open the scoring.  GBC then plated four in the third for a 6-0 lead thanks to Musey and Kolmansberger each getting an RBI single before Charles lined a two-run single.

Kyle Walker (Wilmington, DE) crushed a two-run homer in the fifth to make it 7-0 and fellow senior Demetrius Johnson (Glassboro, NJ) lifted a sacrifice fly in the sixth.

Musey in the seventh broke his own home run record, blasting a two-run shot for his 28th career long ball.  It also marked the fifth consecutive game he has homered.

Mechanicsburg, PA sophomore Nate Miller (3-1) got more than enough support, striking out six and yielding just two hits over six scoreless innings.  Kolmansberger had three hits and three RBI with Musey contributing two and three.

Kolmansberger is batting .514 (18-for-35) during a nine-game hitting streak that incredibly has produced three doubles, five home runs and 21 RBI.  Musey is batting .459 (17-for-37) with six home runs and 19 RBI during an 11-game hitting streak and Walker is at .405 (17-for-42) with eight RBI in his 11-game hitting streak.

Goldey-Beacom (16-9, 2-1 CACC) is ranked second in the East Region, according to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, and Jefferson (10-8, 1-2) is ninth.  These teams played in the first round of the CACC Tournament each of the last two seasons with GBC winning last year after Jefferson was victorious in 2022.

Goldey-Beacom returns to action Tuesday at Caldwell for a 3:00 pm doubleheader.  Please note its home doubleheader against Bloomfield has been moved to Saturday, March 30 at noon.
