Baseball Sees a Split with D'Youville

Goldey-Beacom found its way to a convincing 8-1 victory over D'Youville in game two of its doubleheader after a 7-5 loss in game one at Doyle Field in Wilmington, DE.

Scoring in game two opened with a two-run homer to left field launched into the air from junior Calen Kampes (Colora, MD) for a 2-0 lead.

D'Youville notched a run of its own in third inning following a fielder's choice play, but GBC was given its momentum back after senior Garrett Musey (Millville, NJ) fired a two-run homer for a 4-1.

The fifth saw the play of the game from junior Christian Petrillo (New Brunswick, NJ), who made his way around the bases by lining a two-run inside the park home run down the left field line.

With a comfortable 6-1 lead, the final runs came off a double from junior Braden Kolmansberger (Lewisberry, PA) to drive in Kampes and senior Kyle Walker (Wilmington, DE).

Kampes and Musey each closed 2-for-3 with two RBI, Petrillo finished with one hit and two RBI, and Kolmansberger had one hit and two RBI. Sophomore Nate Miller (Mechanicsburg, PA) had a solid game, striking out four and allowing just five hits in a complete game.

Game one started in favor of the Lightning, who opened scoring in the first inning with an RBI groundout for Musey.

D'Youville tied the score with a sacrifice fly from Ethan Hammond, but Kampes, who could be counted on all day, fired a two-run homer deep into left field for a 3-1 Lightning lead.

Despite a run from the Saints in the sixth, the Lightning stayed hot with back-to-back hits from Walker and Kampes to tally two more runs on the board, 5-2.

D'Youville, who showed resilience throughout, chipped away at the score in the eighth with a huge two-run homer from Jon Simpson to bring the deficit within 5-4.

Keeping the Lightning scoreless, the Saints used their momentum for a final three runs in the ninth off an RBI single from Billy Morris and a two-run homer to left field from Jeremy Glinski to secure a 7-5 win for D'Youville.

Kampes had an incredible two games, closing game one 3-for-4 with three RBI, Walker finished with two hits and one RBI, and Petrillo had two hits for GBC (12-9).

Glinski and Simpson had one hit and two RBI, and Chris Neino and Craig Oliver had two hits. Bryce Hediger pitched a solid 6.1 innings, striking out five for D'Youville (9-8).

Goldey-Beacom closes its four-game series with D'Youville on Sunday with a single game matchup at Doyle Field, first pitch at 12:00 pm in Wilmington, DE.
