No. 23 Baseball Cruises to 10-0 Victory Over Kutztown

No. 23 Goldey-Beacom put together a complete effort that included an eight-run seventh inning and solid pitching for a 10-0 triumph over Kutztown in Cary, NC.

The Lightning were in a scoreless tussle before two runs in the last of the fifth inning changed things.  Senior Darin Miller (Mifflinburg, PA) continued his impressive start with a leadoff single and junior Nick Harkins (Newark, DE) drew a two-out walk before the scoreboard needed adjustments.  Junior Matt Benner (Souderton, PA) plated Miller with an RBI single and senior Kyle Walker (Wilmington, DE) followed with his own run-scoring single, scoring Harkins.

The outcome became less doubtful once the seventh inning was completed.  Benner had an RBI single, Jimmy Hallman (Washington Twp., NJ) drew a bases-loaded walk, fellow junior Mitch Jolikko (Middletown, DE) lined a two-run single, Miller recorded an RBI single and Harkins lowered the curtain with a three-run double.

Wilmington, DE senior Justin Jump (1-0) again pitched great, striking out eight over seven innings and yielding just three hits.  His eighth career victory puts him fifth outright in program history and he moves into fourth with 144 career strikeouts.

Harkins' three RBI ties a career best, Miller notched three hits with Walker and Benner getting two apiece.  Senior Demetrius Johnson (Glassboro, NJ) notched a single and has a hit in all six contests this year.

Goldey-Beacom (4-2), also ranked second in the East Region, has won five of its last six contests and outscored its opponents 48-18 in that time.  Kutztown (2-3) fell to 1-1 in it second trip this season to North Carolina.

GBC on Sunday ends its trip against Clarion.  Please note that now is a doubleheader and will begin at 10:00 am.
