Baseball Records Season-Opening Split vs. Mercy



Goldey-Beacom rode the coattails of an early lead and great pitching for a 9-2 victory over Mercy in game two after it was dealt an 18-2 loss in the opener in Cary, NC.
 
Junior Jimmy Hallman (Washington Twp., NJ) got the Lightning going in the fourth inning of game two, lining a two-run double to open the scoring and chase starter Ryan Dieguez.  Sophomore Anthony Charles (Mullica Hill, NJ) later in the frame ripped a two-run triple for a 4-0 margin.
 
Junior Nick Harkins (Newark, DE) in the sixth inning roped a two-run single and Hallman continued his solid day in the seventh, lining a two-RBI double for an 8-0 margin.  Harkins in the eighth crossed home on a wild pitch for a 9-0 margin.
 
John Nisco in the last of the ninth busted the shutout with a two-run homer for the Mavericks.
 
Senior Justin Jump (Wilmington, DE) was solid on the bump, striking out four and allowing just two hits over four scoreless innings.  Mechanicsburg, PA sophomore Nate Miller (1-0) got the win, striking out two and yielding just two hits over two scoreless frames.
 
Hallman, Harkins, Charles and senior Demetrius Johnson (Glassboro, NJ) all had two hits for the Lightning (1-1).
 
Game one saw seniors Darin Miller (Mifflinburg, PA) and Garrett Musey (Millville, NJ) each record two hits for GBC.  Senior Michael Baginski (Millville, NJ) in the last of the ninth lined a two-run single to plate Charles and junior Calen Kampes (Colora, MD).
 
Justin Glennerster notched five hits and five RBI, including a three-run triple, with Peyton Jemison and Sean McAdams getting three hits apiece for Mercy (1-1).  John Gillespie (1-0) struck out three and permitted just three hits over five scoreless innings.
 
Goldey-Beacom on Saturday travels to Durham, NC to face Saint Rose in a 1:30 pm contest.  The game will be played at Durham Athletic Park, made famous by the 1988 film Bull Durham.
