Volleyball Pulls Off Stunning Third-Set Comeback in 3-0 Victory Over Felician

Goldey-Beacom dug itself out of a massive third-set hole in a shocking comeback for a 3-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory (25-22, 25-22, 27-25) over Felician at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.

The Lightning were in a 23-13 quagmire before things got rolling.  They rattled off the next seven points in closing to 23-20, thanks to senior Piper Nanouski (Chicago, IL) recording three kills and junior Giuliana Jaku (Frontin, Italy) amassing two aces.

An attack error for GBC put things at 24-20 before the home side scored the next five points.  Nanouski came up with two more kills in that time and freshman Gaby Fernandez (Arecibo, PR) put home the last two points on aces for a 25-24 lead.

The Golden Falcons leveled things at 25 before a service error gave the Lightning the lead and senior Caitlyn Burch (Mechanicsville, MD) ended things with a kill.

There were two sets played before that and it was the Lightning's defense that stepped up in the first.  The Golden Falcons in that time were forced into seven errors and hit just .081.  The second set featured more offense as Jaku recorded six kills with Burch and sophomore Ngozi Nwosu (Brockton, MA) adding four apiece, helping GBC record 16 in that period.

Nanouski pounded 12 kills and now has 898 career, remaining fifth in team history.  Jaku had 10 kills and eight digs, Burch and Nwosu recorded seven kills apiece, Fernandez got 20 digs and freshman Ada Koksal (Istanbul, Turkiye) totaled 32 assists.

Karla Maldonado had 13 kills with Sophia Watterson adding 26 assists for Felician (6-18, 3-9 CACC).

Goldey-Beacom (13-12, 6-6) is tied with Wilmington (6-6) for fourth place in the CACC South Division with the top four teams in each of the two divisions going to the conference tournament.

GBC next Thursday visits Georgian Court.  Please note that match in Lakewood, NJ now is a 5:00 pm start.
