Volleyball Falls, 3-2, to Jefferson



Goldey-Beacom appeared headed toward victory on a pair of occasions, but was dealt a tough 3-2 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss (25-21, 25-22, 24-26, 25-21, 15-11) by Jefferson at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.
 
The Lightning held a 23-20 lead in the third set just two points from victory before the Rams went on a 6-1 run to close the set.  The fifth set saw the home side open a 9-6 edge before Jefferson again showed resiliency, using a 9-2 spurt to end things.
 
Senior Piper Nanouski (Chicago, IL) pounded a career-best 23 kills to go with 12 digs for her second double-double of the season.  She moved into fifth place in school history with 946 career kills.
 
Sophomore Ngosi Nwosu (Brockton, MA) totaled 12 kills, sophomore Giuliana Jaku (Frontin, Italy) had 11 and 17 digs, freshman Gaby Fernandez (Arecibo, PR) notched a season-best 35 digs, junior Claudia Camporro (Gijon, Spain) notched 13 and freshman Ada Koksal (Istanbul, Turkiye) added 49 assists for the Lightning.
 
Caroline Bond amassed 42 assists and 32 digs, Morgan Ritchie notched 22 kills, Emily McKenna had 12 and 15 digs, Morgan Martin recorded 12 kills and Cameron Johnson added 16 digs for the Rams (12-16, 7-6 CACC).
 
Goldey-Beacom (14-14, 7-8) enters the final day of the regular season one match ahead of Wilmington (6-9) and Holy Family for the fourth and final conference tournament spot from the South Division.
 
GBC ends the regular season Saturday at Wilmington (DE), beginning at 1:00 pm, with another chance at clinching a berth in the CACC Tournament.
