Volleyball Thrills All With Wild 3-2 Victory Over Chestnut Hill

Senior Piper Nanouski (Chicago, IL) went on a tear with 22 kills and freshman Gaby Fernandez (Arecibo, PR) simply was outstanding with a career-high 31 digs for Goldey-Beacom, which ended Chestnut Hill's seven-match winning streak in an enthralling 3-2 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory (25-21, 23-25, 27-25, 24-26, 15-12) at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.

The intensity reached full throttle in the third set, when GBC was in a 24-22 hole.  That was before a service error and solid defense forged a 24-24 tie.  The Griffins won the next point before the Lightning grabbed the last three, ending it on Nanouski's third kill of the set.

The fourth saw Chestnut Hill own a 23-16 lead before Goldey-Beacom rattled off seven straight for a tie.  Nanouski had three consecutive kills in that time with Fernandez adding an ace.

It was 24-24 before Maya Hopson got a kill and both she and Rachel Mace recorded a block assist to force a fifth set.

The final set was close before it was not, with Goldey-Beacom ending it on a 6-3 run.  Nanouski amassed two kills in the spurt before a service error closed things.

Nanouski could not be stopped, matching her career best in kills from September 20 at Frostburg State in another five-set win.  It is the second time in the last three matches she has totaled at least 20 kills and the seventh time in the last eight she has recorded at least double figures.

Fernandez was all over the court in amazingly keeping points alive, notching at least 20 digs for the fourth straight match and fifth time in the last six.  Her presence alone has altered the course of many matches and the team's future as the seemingly sudden upswing continues.

Junior Giuliana Jaku (Frontin, Italy) had 15 kills and 18 digs for her seventh double-double of the season, senior Caitlyn Burch (Mechanicsville, MD) pounded nine kills with freshman Ada Koksal (Istanbul, Turkiye) adding 42 assists for the Lightning (10-11, 4-5 CACC), who have won three of their last five matches.

Erika Dubosky recorded 18 kills and 13 kills, Mace had 10 kills with Mia Caporellie adding 47 assists for the Griffins (12-6, 7-3).

Goldey-Beacom on Thursday hosts Lincoln (PA) in a 7:00 pm match.
