Men’s Soccer Plays to Spirited 3-3 Tie With Georgian Court

Another enthralling encounter between Goldey-Beacom and Georgian Court was on display with the only disappointment being no winner, resulting in a 3-3 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference draw at Nancy Churchman Sawin Field in Wilmington, DE.

The first half saw just one goal and it was a beauty from Georgian Court's Mathias Madersbacher.  A corner kick in the 20th saw Cherif Tammar work the ball into the middle for Madersbacher, who knocked it home.

The Lightning got even just 76 seconds into the second half.  Junior goalkeeper Chris Jones (Denton, MD) sent a long ball that junior Tumi Sekhampu (Midrand, South Africa) corralled and put home for his first goal of the season and fifth career.

Madersbacher continued his torrid pace in the 55th minute.  After a penalty kick was called, Madersbacher stepped to the spot calmly put the ball home for a 2-1 Lions cushion.

GBC came right back in the 67th minute for a 2-2 tie.  Senior Eduardo Coimbra (Curitiba, Brazil) and junior Sincere Kato (Woodbury, NJ) combined on great passing in getting the ball to junior Pedro Maia (Joao Pessoa, Brazil), who found the back of the net for his first goal of the year.

Coimbra in the 70th minute got his name in the goals column, receiving a great pass from junior Tiwalade Ogunfadebo (New Castle, DE) and scoring his third goal of the year for a 3-2 GBC lead.

Coimbra now is fourth in team history with 22 assists, sixth with 54 points and tied for seventh with 16 goals.

But Georgian Court ended the scoring in the 71st minute courtesy of that guy Madersbacher.  The visitors were awarded a free kick and Madersbacher left no doubt, completing his hat trick and getting his fifth goal of the year.

Jones played great in notching four saves with Maia getting five shots for the Lightning (2-3-1, 0-0-1 CACC).

Madersbacher attempted six shots and Fabio Krissler made two saves for the Lions (1-2-2, 1-0-1).

Goldey-Beacom is home Saturday against Bridgeport as part of a doubleheader with the women's team.  Game time is at 2:30 pm, which follows the women's noon contest.
