Women's Soccer Rallies for 3-3 Tie with Georgian Court

Goldey-Beacom showed persistent play in its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference opener, resulting in a 3-3 tie against Georgian Court at Nancy Churchman Sawin Field in Wilmington, DE.

The Lightning struck first in the ninth minute when awarded a corner kick from the left side. Quick play by freshman Jade Balon (Smyrna, DE) set up junior Alexa Pacheco (Santo Domingo, DR), who crossed the ball into the 10-yard box where senior Samantha Emmi (Logan Township, NJ) found the back of the net off a header for a 1-0 lead.

Strong defensive play from Pacheco and the defensive line kept Georgian Court scoreless throughout the first half.

While the first half was not uneventful, the second provided all of the action with four goals being scored by both teams combined.

Less than a minute after the second half whistle, Georgian Court tied up the score off a cross from Leticia Da Silva caught junior Nikki Cashin (Ridley, PA) on the back foot and reached the net.

It was not long before the Lightning took back the lead in the 56th minute, seeing sophomore Mariah McQueen (Baltimore, MD) shooting over goalkeeper Carley Polchak from the right side, assisted by junior Angela Lee (Warren, RI).

Georgian Court took a 3-2 lead after a 70th minute shot from Bridgette King, assisted by Jessica Ford, and an 80th minute goal from Ashley Merizalde after defensive miscommunication by the Lightning.

But the Lightning continued to play strong and were rewarded with an 87th minute goal from McQueen, who found a second chance after her first was blocked to close the score 3-3.

McQueen finished with four shots, with Lee and Emmi closing with two apiece. Cashin totaled three saves for GBC (0,1,4, 0-0-1 CACC).

Aliya Canfield had three shots and King recorded two for Georgian Court (0-3-3, 0-0-2).

Goldey-Beacom hosts Bridgeport on Saturday at noon as it continues conference play at Nancy Churchman Sawin Field. This is the first game of a doubleheader with the men's team, which kicks off at 2:30 pm.
