Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Takes 3-2 Victory over Washington Adventist

Goldey-Beacom continue to show improvement with strong play, as shown in a 3-2 triumph over Washington Adventist at Nancy Churchman Sawin Field in Wilmington, DE.

Despite a number of chances by Washington Adventist to start the match, it was the Lightning who struck first. Senior Eduardo Coimbra (Curitiba, Brazil) whipped the ball from the right side corner to the back post to sophomore Cody Niggebrugge (Middletown, DE), who headed the ball for a 1-0 Lightning lead in the 16th-minute.

But the Washington Adventist's Lucas Fazzolari tied up the score on an unassisted goal in the 35th-minute.

However, the Lightning were not finished in the first half. With four seconds remaining, Coimbra attempted a 25-yard shot, which ricocheted off the crossbar to the feet of junior Sincere Kato (Woodbury, NJ), who found the back of the net with one second left on the clock.

With a 2-1 lead, the Lightning continued their impressive play and Kato returned the favor to Coimbra, who finished a deflection in the 52nd-minute to further the lead to 3-1.

Washington Adventist's final goal came in the 79th-minute from Ben Cooksley for a final score of 3-2.

Coimbra and junior Oliver Person (Ski, Norway) finished with three shots apiece for GBC (2-3).

Fazzalori and Felipe da Silva had four shots each for Washington Adventist (6-2).

Goldey-Beacom begin conference play on Wednesday as they host Georgian Court at 4:00 pm at Nancy Churchman Sawin Field in Wilmington, DE.
