Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Falls at No. 25 Mercyhurst in Season Opener

Goldey-Beacom went against one of the East's top squads in 25th-ranked Mercyhurst and left Erie, PA with a season-opening, 6-0 setback.

The Lightning today presented a starting lineup with eight carrying previous experience in the program.  GBC a season ago displayed solid performances against quality opposition and hopes that resume provides even better play in 2023.

The Lakers tallied in the 14th minute when Andreas Rossak put home a shot just inside the right post for a 1-0 lead.  They doubled the margin four minutes later, when Luis Felipe Santos took a cross from Guilherme de Lima Cunha and buried it home for a 2-0 margin.

Mercyhurst in the 56th minute was awarded a free kick and capitalized with Ryan Lieser finding the back of the net for a 3-0 contest.  Rossak in the 70th minute got his second of the match, converting a great pass from Jorge Tallada Torres on a half volley.

Rossak in the 78th minute completed his hat trick, getting a feed from Dylan Sumner and burying it.  The Lakers made it 6-0 in the 86th minute with Lieser converting a penalty kick for his second tally of the match.

Freshman Aeddan Jones (Chester, England) made four saves and junior Brandon Delgado (Guadalajara, Mexico) attempted two shots for the Lightning (0-1).

Jaime Tedaldi had one save for Mercyhurst (1-0).

Goldey-Beacom on Sunday concludes its Erie trip with a noon contest at Gannon.
