Women’s Tennis Selected to End Fourth in the CACC

8/24/2023 12:00:00 AM

A young lineup now experienced in playing collegiate tennis is what Goldey-Beacom sports and that will play a major factor as the team was picked to close fourth in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference based on a vote of the league's coaches.

A major bright spot returning this season is sophomore Zehra Canbaz (Denizli, Turkey), who amassed a combined 12 victories last year that included seven at No. 2 singles.  An energetic competitor, she looks to duplicate the success that last season saw her attain winning streaks of four both in singles and doubles.

Junior Elizabeth Mova (Sevastopol, Ukraine) held the role playing at first singles and first doubles most of the season, displaying exceptional tenacity against many of the league's best.  She has a great deal of potential in making herself among the conference's elite and hopes to take a big step forward this season.

Junior Macy Hendin-Walker (Ipswich, England) is the most experienced player for the Lightning and has played a key role for the squad the last two seasons.  She combined for six victories last season and will compete for one of the many open roles as the team continues to find the perfect equation.

Goldey-Beacom continues to flourish under coach Bernard Flowers, who enters his third season.  A standout player in his day at John Jay College, Flowers has brought a strong mentality to the squad and that knowledge carries into his role as Delcastle Tennis Center's Director of Tennis Operations.

Goldey-Beacom begins its season September 12 at Delcastle Tennis Center against Molloy.
