Women’s Soccer Picked to Close Fifth in the CACC

8/22/2023 12:00:00 AM

Goldey-Beacom, hoping for yet another trip to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament, has been picked fifth in the league based on a vote of the league coaches.

Junior Angela Lee (Warren, RI), one of six a season ago for the Lightning to start all 18 games, emerged as a bona fide star and one drawing acclaim as of the league's top passers.  This proved true throughout the campaign, when she was ended 14th in the country with 0.5 assists per game, 20th with nine assists and 63rd with 1.28 points per contest.

Junior Alex Lowry (Wenonah, NJ), also a standout with the softball team, gives the squad offensive firepower and looks to take even more steps toward helping the Lightning achieve greatness.  She ended last season ninth in the CACC with seven goals, 11th with 18 points and 13th with four assists.

Another major key to the program is junior goalkeeper Nikki Cashin (Ridley, PA), who last season started all 16 games she played before injury ended her year.  A valuable leader who is back and once again seeks to continue her role as a dominant player, Cashin a year ago finished 83rd in the country with 4.56 saves per game, 96th with 73 saves, fifth in the league with a .768 save percentage and sixth with a 1.47 goals-against average.

Goldey-Beacom once again also enjoyed success in the classroom, seeing the maximum six players named College Sports Communications Academic All-District.  Ten from the squad made the CACC Academic Honor Roll.

Goldey-Beacom (9-8-1, 7-4-1 CACC) last season played in the CACC Tournament for a school-record eighth straight competitive year.  The Lightning also ended the regular season 10th in the NCAA East Regional Rankings, the primary criteria for selecting at-large teams into the NCAA Tournament.

GBC opens its season August 31 at home against Bloomsburg.
