Baseball Secures CACC Tournament Spot With Split at Chestnut Hill

Goldey-Beacom secured its spot in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Tournament with a 3-1 triumph in game one before falling 2-1 in game two against Chestnut Hill in North Wales, PA.

Darin Miller (Mifflinburg, PA) opened the scoring in game one with an RBI double to drive in fellow junior Demetrius Johnson (Glassboro, NJ), who had reached via a walk.

Chestnut Hill put pressure on GBC, tying the score in the fifth off an RBI single from Nate O'Donnell.

But the Lightning showed why they are one of the best teams in the CACC, scoring two more runs off a sacrifice fly from sophomore Braden Kolmansberger (Lewisberry, PA) and a solo home run from junior Kyle Walker (Wilmington, DE) to claim the 3-1 triumph.

Walker, who was named to last week's CACC Weekly Honor Roll, closed 4-for-5 with a home run and one RBI.  Senior Marlon Lindsey Jr. (Lafayette Hill, PA) finished with two hits.

Collegeville, PA junior Jake Kelchner (4-2) had yet another strong performance for the Lightning, striking out five and allowing only six hits in nine innings.  He became the third pitcher in program history to throw nine innings, tying the school record, and the first since Jake Trejo against Post on April 17, 2019.

Greg Sylvester had two hits and O'Donnell had a hit and an RBI.

Game two saw Chestnut Hill take an early 2-0 lead with two unearned runs.

The Lightning threatened the Griffins in the seventh when Miller scored on a fielder's choice, but defensive play from the Griffins would hold the 2-1 win.

Sophomore Christian Petrillo (New Brunswick, NJ) finished 3-for-4 with seniors Johnny Kampes (Colora, MD) and Marlon Lindsey Jr., junior Dante DiSabatino (Middletown, DE) and Miller each getting one hit. Despite the loss, Wilmington, DE junior Justin Jump (4-5) pitched a solid game, striking out five over 5.2 innings for GBC (29-16, 14-8 CACC).

Zack Ahmed, Justin Geiger, and David Antone had one hit each for Chestnut Hill (17-26, 11-11).

Goldey-Beacom hosts Bridgeport on Tuesday in a 1:00 pm doubleheader as part of Senior Day at Doyle Field in Hockessin, DE.
