Baseball Sweeps Bridgeport to Clinch Second Place in the CACC

Goldey-Beacom rolled to a pair of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victories, 12-0 and 17-5, over Bridgeport in Hockessin, DE to clinch second place in the South Division.

Goldey-Beacom (31-16, 16-8 CACC) for the second straight year will host third-seeded Jefferson (25-19, 14-8) in the first round at Doyle Field.  The first two games of the best-of-three series are Friday and the deciding third game, if necessary, is Saturday.  The game times have not been determined, but please consult GBCAthletics.com and our social media (@GBCLightning) for updates.

Game one saw sophomore Christian Petrillo (New Brunswick, NJ) get an RBI single as part of a four-run frame to give GBC a 5-0 lead.  Petrillo, who ended the game 3-for-3, and senior Johnny Kampes (Colora, MD) each ripped RBI doubles in the fourth for a 7-0 cushion.

The Lightning got five more in the sixth for the final, highlighted by RBI singles from juniors Kyle Walker (Wilmington, DE) and Demetrius Johnson (Glassboro, NJ).

Petrillo had three RBI, Kampes amassed three hits and junior Garrett Musey (Millville, NJ) added two for the Lightning.  Mount Bethel, PA Kevin Dillon (5-1) struck out six over six scoreless innings, allowing just four hits, before fellow freshman Nate Miller (Mechanicsburg, PA) struck out two in the seventh.

GBC in game two exploded for seven runs in the third for a 7-2 lead.  Kampes, Walker and Johnson all had RBI singles before junior Darin Miller (Mifflinburg, PA) crushed a three-run homer.

Sophomore Matt Benner (Souderton, PA) launched a two-run homer in the fifth to make it 11-5 before the Lightning plated six in the sixth.  Kampes continued his solid game with a leadoff homer and Petrillo's red-hot day reached its conclusion with a two-run double.

Kampes went 4-for-4 with three RBI for his first four-hit game, Petrillo got three hits, Miller ended with four RBI and Benner had three.  Murrieta, CA sophomore Luke Drzemiecki (1-1) got the win, tossing a perfect inning.

Craig Leonard had two RBI in his final game for the Purple Knights (9-38, 5-20) and was greeted with a great ovation by his squad in the seventh.  Jeremy Rodrigues also had two RBI.
