Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball Falls, 6-1, to Le Moyne at the NCAA Tournament

An outstanding pitchers duel in the winners bracket of the NCAA Tournament's East Regional 2 was a thrill to watch, but it did not go Goldey-Beacom's way in being dealt a 6-1 loss by Le Moyne in Newark, DE.

Le Moyne (33-19) wasted no time to reach the scoreboard, plating two runs in the top of the first inning.  Nick Nevins lined a one-out single and Brody Keneston made it count with a two-out, two-run homer for a 2-0 lead.

The Dolphins in the third used some two-out offense, getting a solo homer from Dewey Roden for a 3-0 lead.

Le Moyne, in its final year playing in Division II before transitioning this summer to Division I, generated more offense in the eighth inning.  Roden led off with a ground-rule double to deep center field and Keneston again did his thing, crushing a two-run homer to left-center field for a 5-0 margin.

Keneston in the ninth inning capped baseball's version of the hat trick, exploding for his third home run of the contest to make it 6-0.

Senior Marlon Lindsey Jr. (Lafayette Hill, PA) spoiled the shutout with an RBI single in the ninth.

Sam DiGeorge (7-1) retired the first seven batters and simply was outstanding for the Dolphins, striking out seven over nine innings and yielding just four hits.

He also benefitted from many outstanding infield plays that incredulously erased many potential GBC baserunners, thus thwarting any imminent rallies.

Wilmington, DE junior Justin Jump (5-7) did everything he could to keep the Lightning in the contest, getting seven strikeouts to fall one short of a career high over 7 1/3 innings and recorded three 1-2-3 frames.

Goldey-Beacom moves into the elimination bracket and will face Queens (NY) on Saturday at 1:00 pm.  The winner gets Le Moyne in the championship round Saturday at 4:30 pm.

Please note the game times have been moved up due to impending weather expected in New Castle County, Delaware.

Goldey-Beacom (35-19) is making its second NCAA Tournament appearance since the program's 2017 reinstatement.  The campaign has produced a school record for most wins with Jake Kelchner, Johnny Kampes and Kyle Walker named first team All-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference in addition to Christian Petrillo getting tabbed second team.
