Kyle Walker Breaks the School’s Hits Record on a Day Baseball is Eliminated From the CACC Tournament

Junior Kyle Walker (Wilmington, DE) broke the program's hits record, but it was not enough to prevent Goldey-Beacom being eliminated from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament in Waterbury, CT.

Goldey-Beacom fell from the winners bracket of the double-elimination weekend with an 8-3 loss against Felician before it was handed a 10-5 loss by Post.

GBC in the opener against Felician fell victim to a 2-0 deficit in the top of the second inning.  Julian Uejima had a run-scoring groundout and Thomas Kendrick followed with an RBI single.

The margin grew to 6-0 in the fourth.  Haiden Walters was hit by a pitch with the based loaded, Uejima crossed home on a two-out error and Dauri Genao followed with an RBI single.

The Lightning gave themselves plenty of opportunities to get runners home, but ended leaving runners on base in eight of the nine innings.  GBC saw junior Dante DiSabatino (Middletown, DE) get an RBI groundout in the sixth, senior Johnny Kampes (Colora, MD) notch a run-scoring single in the seventh and sophomore Braden Kolmansberger (Lewisberry, PA) record an RBI fielder's choice in the eighth.

Kampes, a first team all-league pick, again was incredible at the plate with three hits.  It is the fifth time in the last six contests and the ninth time this season he has notched at least three hits in a game.

Junior Demetrius Johnson (Glassboro, NJ) added two hits for the Lightning.  Wilmington, DE junior Justin Jump (5-6) struck out three over five innings, allowing seven runs – three earned – and six hits.

Genao rapped three hits, Chris Fernandez had two and Mike Caldon (5-1) struck out eight over seven innings in surrendering just two runs – one earned – and six hits for the Golden Falcons.

The contest against the Eagles saw the Lightning fall into a 4-0 deficit in the third inning.  Jimmy Brennan lined an RBI double, DJ Caron followed with a sacrifice fly and Matt Goehrig followed that with a two-run homer.

Goldey-Beacom once again showed resiliency by leveling the score in the top of the fourth.  Walker scored on an error, senior Marlon Lindsey Jr. (Lafayette Hill, PA) crossed home on a balk, junior Darin Miller (Mifflinburg, PA) lined an RBI single and Kolmansberger followed with a run-scoring double.

Brennan continued his outstanding game with an RBI single in the last of the frame for a 5-4 contest and Hunter Keller got a run-scoring double in the fifth for a two-run game.

This was all before the Eagles plated four more runs in the sixth for a 10-4 contest, buoyed by Danny Gill's three-run double.

Walker's record-breaking day included an RBI single in the seventh to close the scoring.  He finished with three hits and now is at 163 career, breaking a tie he shared with Justin Hill (2017-21) entering the contest.

Brennan had three hits and two RBI with Gill getting two hits for the Eagles (35-16).  Derek Duval got the win after striking out four over 5 1/3 relief innings.

Goldey-Beacom (34-18) now will see if it receives an at-large berth into the NCAA Tournament for the second time in the last three years.  The Lightning this season have four victories against nationally ranked teams and entered the week third in the latest NCAA East Region Rankings.

The NCAA Tournament Selection Show is Sunday, May 14 at 11:00 pm (please note the time change) on NCAA.com.
