Baseball Opens Championship Weekend at the CACC Tournament With 10-4 Triumph Over Post

Goldey-Beacom saw yet another offensive explosion with a pair of four-run innings and was on its way to a 10-4 victory over Post to open championship weekend of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament in Waterbury, CT.

GBC (34-16), with its fifth straight victory and in a contest which all four of its all-conference selections played a big role, on Friday advances to the winners bracket.  It will face the winner of Thursday's game between Felician and Wilmington, beginning at 11:00 am.

Post (33-16) broke the ice with two runs in the last of the third inning.  Michael Pavelchak stroked a leadoff single, Jimmy Brennan got him to third with a double and both scored on DJ Caron's single.

The Lightning took their turn with a big inning by taking the lead in the fifth.  Dante DiSabatino (Middletown, DE) and fellow junior Darin Miller (Mifflinburg, PA) each singled, sophomore Braden Kolmansberger (Lewisberry, PA) walked and first team all-league pick Johnny Kampes (Colora, MD) cleared the bases with a double for a 3-2 GBC lead.

Junior Kyle Walker (Wilmington, DE), a first team All-CACC pick this season after being tabbed second team in 2021, followed with an RBI single to cap the four-run frame and chase starter Dan Raglievic.  It was Walker's 94th career RBI, tying Marshall Awtry (2019-22) for the program record.

GBC duplicated its output in the sixth inning.  Miller lined an RBI single, Kolmansberger followed with a two-run double before second team All-CACC pick Christian Petrillo (New Brunswick, NJ) lifted a sacrifice fly for an 8-2 contest.

Evan Cornwell in the sixth lined an RBI double and Brennan added a run-scoring single later in the frame, getting the Eagles within 8-4.  GBC recorded the game's final runs in the eighth with Kolmansberger and Kampes getting RBI singles.

It was yet another solid outing for first team Collegeville, PA junior and first team all-conference selection Jake Kelchner (6-2), who struck out seven over six innings.  His 65 strikeouts are a new single-season program record and his six wins equals the team's top mark.

Junior Karl Schmidt (Lincoln U., PA) tossed three scoreless innings, allowing just two hits for his school-record fifth save of the season.

Kampes had three hits and four RBI, senior Marlon Lindsey Jr. (Lafayette Hill, PA) ripped three hits, Kolmansberger amassed two and three RBI with Miller and DiSabatino getting two hits apiece.

Brennan had four hits with Cornwell and Pavelchak recording two apiece.  Raglievic (4-4) struck out five over 4 2/3 innings, but allowed four runs and five hits for Post.
