Baseball Splits Two From Caldwell

Goldey-Beacom received great pitching from junior Justin Jump (Wilmington, DE) in a 3-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over Caldwell after it was handed a wild 8-6, 10-inning loss at Doyle Field in Hockessin, DE.

Jump was outstanding over his seven innings, notching eight strikeouts to fall one short of his career best and yielding just one unearned run.  It was his second career complete game.

Senior Johnny Kampes (Colora, MD) roped an RBI triple in the first and junior Kyle Walker (Wilmington, DE) followed with a run-scoring groundout to give GBC a 2-1 lead.  Junior Dante DiSabatino (Middletown, DE) got the squad an insurance run in the third with an RBI single for the final.

Kampes ended the game with two hits.

Waldy Arias and Michael Cruz had two hits apiece for the Cougars.

Game one was a wild affair that produced the sixth double-digit-inning contest in the program's brief seven-year history.

Caldwell received many highlights that stated with Liam Lombardi cracking a grand slam in the fifth to give his squad a 4-1 lead.  Arias scored on a wild pitch in the seventh for a 5-5 tie, Kyle Richards stole home in the same frame to make it 6-5 and Malik Little had the go-ahead, two-run single in the 10th.

GBC (21-11, 6-3 CACC) saw Kampes blast a solo homer in the fifth, junior Darin Miller (Mifflinburg, PA) line a two-run single later in the inning, Walker add an RBI single in the sixth and junior Demetrius Johnson (Glassboro, NJ) provide the tying RBI single in the seventh.

Walker had three hits with Johnson and DiSabatino adding two apiece.  Sophomore Wyatt Atkinson (Moorestown, NJ) struck out six over four scoreless innings, allowing just one hit.

Little and Arias notched two hits apiece for Caldwell (8-18, 2-10).

Goldey-Beacom entered today ranked fifth in the East Region, according to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

Goldey-Beacom is off until next Tuesday, when it visits Wilmington (DE) for a CACC South Division game.  First pitch in New Castle is at 3:00 pm.
