School Records Put Under the Microscope in Baseball’s Loss at Wilmington

Goldey-Beacom saw one school record broken, one tied and another nearing its imminent fall in a 13-3 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss at Wilmington in New Castle, DE.

Wilmington held a 1-0 lead before putting up a five-spot in the third to make it a six-run contest.  Eddie Parry cracked a two-run double to right center, Tyler Pirrung notched an RBI single and JJ Killen followed with a two-run double to right.

Parry was not done, ripping a three-run homer to left center in the last of the fourth for a 9-0 contest and the last of his game-high five RBI.

The Lightning got one back in the fifth when senior Johnny Kampes (Colora, MD) was hit by a pitch to lead off, took second on a wild pitch, stole third and scored on a passed ball.  The margin went back to nine before sophomore Christian Petrillo (New Brunswick, NJ) drove one home on a fielder's choice in the sixth for a 10-2 contest.

Junior Demetrius Johnson (Glassboro, NJ) was responsible for Goldey-Beacom's last run, getting an RBI double in the seventh to make it 10-3.

Senior Anthony DiMartino (Sicklerville, NJ) took care of one school record by notching his 152nd career strikeout, breaking a tie he shared with Mitch Guerrieri (2018-22).  Kampes recorded two stolen bases and now has 32 career that still have him third in team annals.  The program high of 40 is held by Mason Maxwell (2019-22).

Sophomore Braden Kolmansberger (Lewisberry, PA) had three doubles to tie the school record and junior Kyle Walker (Wilmington, DE) added two hits, giving the latter a hit in 48 of his last 51 games for the Lightning.

Nick Nocella recorded four hits, Killen notched three and Matt Warrington (5-0) struck out eight over five innings for the Wildcats (19-11, 11-1 CACC).

Goldey-Beacom (21-12, 6-4) is ranked sixth in the East Region and Wilmington is ninth, both according to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

These teams are back in action Saturday with a doubleheader at Doyle Field in Hockessin, beginning at noon.
