Baseball Falls in the 11th Inning to Chestnut Hill

A berth in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament was there to be clinched, but Goldey-Beacom will have to wait another day after it was dealt a 10-8, 11-inning loss by Chestnut Hill at Doyle Field in Hockessin, DE.

Goldey-Beacom scored all of its runs during the fourth inning, erasing a 4-0 deficit to take an 8-4 lead.

Among the highlights in the fourth included RBIs from sophomore Matt Benner (Souderton, PA) and senior Johnny Kampes (Colora, MD) before junior Kyle Walker (Wilmington, DE) stroked a two-run double.  Senior Marlon Lindsey Jr. (Lafayette Hill, PA) drove home a run, Walker crossed home on a wild pitch before juniors Demetrius Johnson (Glassboro, NJ) and Darin Miller (Mifflinburg, PA) had RBI singles.

Greggory Sylvester had an RBI double in the sixth and Eli Meredith added a sacrifice fly late in the frame to make it 8-7.  The Griffins looked for the equalizer in the ninth and got in when RJ Huth cracked a leadoff home run.

It stayed level into the 11th, when David Antone lined an RBI single down the right-field file and Zach Ahmed hit a bad-hop single up the middle for a 10-8 contest.

Kampes, Lindsey and Miller all had two hits for the Lightning.  Senior Anthony DiMartino (Sicklerville, NJ) struck out four over 5 1/3 innings in a no-decision and freshman Alex Cross (Millville, NJ) was solid in the eighth inning, striking out all three batters he faced in the contest.

Antone had three hits and three RBI with Huth and Justin Geiger getting three hits apiece for Chestnut Hill (16-25, 10-10 CACC).  Marlon Rose (6-4) allowed just one hit spanning the ninth and 10th innings before Colby Selling tossed the 11th for the save.

Goldey-Beacom (28-15, 13-7) now is one game ahead of Jefferson (11-7) for second place in the CACC South Division, pending the outcome of the latter's 6:00 pm game at Alliance.

Goldey-Beacom is ranked fifth in the East Region, according to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

Goldey-Beacom and Chestnut Hill on Saturday will square off in a doubleheader , weather permitting, beginning at noon in North Wales, PA.  Please consult our social media outlets (@GBCLightning) for any changes.
