Baseball Sees a Split at Bloomfield

Goldey-Beacom made the trip to Bloomfield and came away with an 11-7 triumph in game two after falling 9-7 in game one in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play in Newark, NJ.

The Lightning opened the scoring of game two with back-to-back home runs from senior Johnny Kampes (Colora, MD) and junior Kyle Walker (Wilmington, DE).  This was before a two-RBI homer came from sophomore Braden Kolmansberger (Lewisberry, PA) to give the Lightning a 4-0 lead.

An RBI single from Justin Rivera gave Bloomfield one run, but the Lightning's lead was furthered to 5-1 on an unearned run from Kampes.

Another run came from Bloomfield in the fifth on a homerun from Suriel Sleiter.

Sophomore Christian Petrillo (New Brunswick, NJ) kept the Lightning's spark lit, firing an RBI single up the middle to drive in junior Darin Miller (Mifflinburg, PA). Two more runs were scored on an RBI groundout from Walker and sophomore Matt Benner (Souderton, PA) on a passed ball.

Home runs from Rivera and Elian Guzman in the sixth made the score 8-4.

With bases loaded in the seventh, Kampes showed all the experience, connecting for a two-RBI single, before Walker continued his impressive performance with a single to left field to drive in Petrillo for the Lightning's final run.

Bloomfield attempted to take the lead with three more runs in the seventh, but the strong defensive play of the Lightning secured the 11-7 win and the program's school-record 28th victory.

Walker went 3-for-5 with three RBI, Kampes went 2-for-4 with three RBI, Kolmansberger had one hit and two RBI, and sophomore Adam McEvoy (Sewell, NJ) closed with two hits. Junior Karl Schmidt (Lincoln U., PA) secured his third win of the season, striking out six over six innings.

Kampes also had his 41st career stolen base, a new school record that beats the previous mark held by Mason Maxwell.

Rivera had two hits and two RBI and Jonas Espinal had two hits.

Game one saw the Lightning take an early 1-0 lead on an RBI single from senior Marlon Lindsey Jr. (Lafayette Hill, PA).

L. Ramirez fired a home run to level the score before Guzman cleared the bases on a grand slam to lift Bloomfield's lead to 5-1.

Junior Demetrius Johnson (Glassboro, NJ) cut the lead to 5-3 with a two-RBI homerun in the fourth, but Bloomfield scored another run to push the lead further.

Battling back, the Lightning took the lead in the seventh. Petrillo sparked the Lightning's rally with a double before Kampes drove him in with a double of his own. Continuing the streak, Walker fired a double before a two-RBI homerun gave the Lightning their first lead of the game at 7-6.

Bloomfield secured a 9-7 win on a walkoff, three-run homer from Tyree Bradley in the bottom of the seventh.

Lindsey closed with two hits and three RBI, while Johnson had one hit and two RBI.

Bradley had two hits and three RBI and Guzman had one hit and four RBI.

Goldey-Beacom opens a three-game series with Chestnut Hill on Tuesday with a 2:00 pm game at Doyle Field in Hockessin, DE.
